Qld: Girl who tortured man for days escapes imprisonment
A teenage girl who repeatedly tortured and assaulted a man for several days along withthree others after he failed to pay a drug debt has been given a probation order.
The girl, who cannot be named, pleaded guilty to torture, assault occasioning bodilyharm and sexual assault in the Brisbane District Court.
The court was told the 24-year-old victim -- who has since died in an unrelated incident-- was assaulted because he couldn't pay a $100 drug debt.
Although aged 18 now, the girl was 16 at the time the offences took place and was chargedunder the Juvenile Justice Act.
In handing down his decision, Judge KERRY O'BRIEN said the girl had most likely beeninfluenced by her drug use and the three other people involved in the offences who wereaged in their late 20s.
However, due to the severity of the offences, a criminal conviction has been recordedand the girl's been given a two-year period of suspended detention and probation.
